Madison.The amusement committee of the Peace Carnival held a meeting last night, and the final arrangements for the entertainment of the visiting crowds were completed. This committee has been hard at work for several weeks, corresponding with the managers of many attractions of various kinds, and signing contracts with the best of them. The committee has gone through with a very thorough weeding out process, and they are now able to present to the public a list of attractions that cannot be beat anywhere in this country. No matter where you go. nor how much you pay to see them, you will not find a finer collection of acrobatic specialties than the one which will be brought together in Burlington next Wednesday and Thursday. Every man on the Peace Carnival list is a star in his line; there are no second class performers; no half way artists.print today the following announcements of the names of the specialists, and the feats for which they are noted:One of the best series of performances will be those offered by the famous troupe of five Japanese acrobats. These are four grown persons and one little boy, and every single member of the company is up to all the tricks of the trade. They perform on the slack wire, do all kinds of juggling and heavyweight lifting., and give altogether one of the greatest acts ever seen. This company comes direct from Tokio, Japan, having arrived in America only last July, when they performed for the first time in the city of Mexico. They are under the management and personal supervision of H. W. Nakamura.Frank Wadell is the name of a young man who will introduce to the Burlington. crowds one of the greatest acts they have ever seen. He show's some-f -= PROGRAMME#- |WEDNESDAY, OCT. He is a manipulator of battle-axes, battle clubs and burning torches, and people who ought to know say that his is the most daring act nr. the American stage today.Moreno, the equilibrist, and balancing trapeze artist, is one of the very best attractions to be had. Not a cent will be charged any of the peo-The city of Burlington is running this celebration, and it is going to be right. Our friends from the surrounding country and neighboring towns are our guests, and they will be entertained royally. Then they will go away from Burlington, when the Carnival is over, well pleased with the treatment they have received and grateful to the managers of the celebration for the quality of their entertainment Then when these same friends want to do a little trading they will know where to go, to get the best goods and the best treatment.Perhaps our readers are not all familiar with the names of the performers who will electrify the crowds on our street corners next week. For the benefi of the tlfcusands who will be anxious to take in all the sights, and rkuw what they are going to see; wefancy juggling acts that have never been attempted by any other performer. In one of his best acts he uses sixteen clubs at one time.Prof. La Jelt and wife are recognized as a couple of the most daring performers on the tight rope in the world. They guarantee that they will do the strongest tight-rope act ever attempted in this country.Prof. Lyon is perhaps the greatest trick bicycle rider in the country. He has performed at all the great summer resorts and many of the largest cities in the country. He has also appeared before the royalty in Europe. Prof Lyon can do more tricks on the tyke than any other ridel* in the country.The Zoyarrows are the leading lights of the nation in their particular line. They are a man and woman, and they do a wonderful series of acts on the flying trapeze. The daring exploits performed by them are thrilling and startling. He says it afforded the people no end of fun, and is one of the greatest ways to entertain a crowd that has yet been hit upon. The amusement committee last night appointed a sub-committee to make arrangements for a mask carnival i n Burlington. It will be given Wednes-day night, and it will be a great entertainment. The following gentlemen will have charge of the entertainment: Dr. Caster, chairman; Frank Chamberlin, Jos. Sutter and J. A. Kleppisch. Dr. Caster, at the head of the committee, will see the thing through with a rush. He will put in his besJ licks to make it a success, and it will doubtless be one of the most attractive and mirth-producing features of otir great celebration.The Time of McKinley’s Arrival Positively Known.The carnival managers are now able to announce officially the time of rival and stay of President McKinley and party in Burlington. Mr. Minton talked over the ’phone with Manager W. C. Brown, of the Burlington, and he stated that he had been informed of the exact itinerary of the party. They will be in Burlington from 7 to 7:30 p. m.—no sooner or later—Thursday, October 13.Schools Will Dismissed During Carnival.The public schools will be dismissed at least one day and perhaps both days of the carnival, to allow teachers and children to enjoy the peace celebration. So far the school board has taken no official action in this matter, but Director lllick stated this morning that they were but waiting to see a program of events to decide upon which day the schools will bo closed. The question of closing for thd afternoon sessions was also discussed, but this is hardly practical.It is extremely probable that the schools may be dismissed both days, as Director lllick said that the children would be demoralized by the visit of President McKinley and the constant music which would be within hearing, though they were unabld to see the source. It will be impossible for the teachers to control their scholars with a half dozen bands playing, circus performances on tap all the time and everyone else enjoying the occasion, Jrot themselves cooped up within four walls.Will Be Lots of Music.Mr. Minton, who is in charge of this attraction, promises a rare carnival of music. Fischer’s and the Excelsior bands have been engaged, also the Brighton band of 35 pieces. The Hedrick aA Washington organizations will also come, and there will hardly* be an hour, day or night, but what a band will be playing.Gear, Shaw and Allison With McKinley.President McWinley is expected to arrive early in the evening, but whatever hour he comes he may be sure of an audience of thousands. According to the Des Moines Capital prominent Iowans, will be in the party. It says: President McKinley will cross Iowa next Wednesday, traveling over the Northwestern road from Clinton td C6tmcil Bluffs. At Clinton a special car will be attached which will be oc-lt;cupied by the governor of Iowa, Leslie M. Shaw, and Senators Allison and Gear. The party will reach Omaha next Wednesday. The people of I will hope for good weather. The president crossed the state on Rock Island road In the campaign of 1894, during which journey he stopped at Des Moines, making two speelt; while in the city.New Committees Appointed.At a meeting last evening the following new committees were appointed:Masked Carnival—Dr. Caster, F. Madison News: The grocers,butchers and bakers are considering the advisability of giving an excursion to Burlington on Thursday, Oct. 13th. on account of the carnival and President McKinley’s visit. They have called a meeting for Monday night at Central fire station in order to perfect arrangements.Leave your order for decorations next Wednesday and Thursday with M. F.
