attended a farm sale of Mr. McLaughlin’s near Greenwich Saturday. Mr. and Mrs. James Carpenter and family spent the weekend in West Virginia, having been called there by the death of a relative. Mr. and Mrs. Z. M. Lucas were Sunday dinner guests of Mr. and Mrs. Ronald Bosley Jr. near North Lawrence. Mrs. Merle Moyer is again a patient in an Akron hospital. Don Hastings, who had a sale of his battle Monday, suffered a heart attack before the sale and is a patient in the Lodi Community Hospital. Mrs. Vernon Anderson is also a patient in the Lodi Hospital, as is Mrs. Herbert Clinker. Friends were sorry to hear of the death of William Whitmore of Burbank. He had many friends here. Jan Carpenter is the new carrier of the Medina County Gazette. Riverdale Rebekah Lodge met in the lodge hall Monday evening. Plans are in the making for a Christmas carry-in dinner for members and their husbands, and Oddfellows and their wives at the next meeting and there will be a gift exchange. The Live Oak Twig will meet in the community hospital at 7:30 p.m., Wed nesday, Dec. 5. There will be a dollar gift exchange. Order of Eastern Star will meet in Odoo Temple at 8 p.m., Tuesday, c. 4. Harrisville Grange will meet in the grange hall at 8 p.m., Tuesday, Dec. 4. TOPS Club will meet in the township hall at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 4. Sunday, Dec. 2, is the first Sunday of the advent season. The Rev. Eugene L. Priest will use as his sermon topic: ‘‘The Pure In Heart” and will feature a short film. This will be the first in a series of sermons on ‘‘Who can see God.”’ The next two Sundays all children of the church school are asked to bring mittens or gloves for a mitten tree. They should be new and in a size that will fit themselves and will be given to local children and inner city children for Christmas. The Rev. and Mrs. Charles Crabtree spent a few days in West Virginia visiting Mrs. Crabtree’s mother who is ill. Rev. Crabtree is pastor of the Baptist Temple. The Raritan Club met Monday in the fellowship hall of the United Church of Christ for a dinner and meeting. Thirty one men were in attendance. The club is sponsoring an unlighted home Christmas decoration contest. Entry in this contest must be made at once. First prize will be $15, second prize $10 and third prize will be $5. Ruritan members furnished a turkey for a Thanksgiving dinner for a family of eight who were in need. They voted in a new member, the Rev. Kenneth Fisher, pastor of the Black River church. Due to Christmas eve falling on their regular date the next meeting will be Dec. 17. The club received an agriculture award at the state meeting in East Palestine recently, for having done most of the farming for a man who has been ill. The evening was spent making and talking over plans for the new year. C.T. Guindon will be the new president and has many plans in the making. The church conference was held in the United Methodist Church Monday evening for the election of officers.
