Evelyn YaglaEvelyn Yagla was born in Rockford, III, in 1915, the daughter of Lena Nelson Knode and Smith Oliver Knode. She was a9graduate of Waterloo West High School and Gates Business College. She was executive secretary to the editor and manager of the Waterloo Courier until the beginning of World War II. She married Jarvis Yagla and traveled with him and their infant son, Jon, to the Gulf states and California, while he was in pilot training in the Army Air Corps. She was an officer at the Waterloo Savings Bank Well known and loved in the community, she was one of the founders and president of the Waterloo club of Altrusa International service organization. An avid gardener, she won several state championships with her tea roses. Her brother, Oliver, preceded her in death. She is survived by her husband, Jarvis; two sons, Dr. Jon Yagla of King George, Va., and Gene Yagla, an attorney in Waterloo. She has five devoted grandchildren in Waterloo, Virginia, Connecticut, North Carolina and South Carolina, and two great-grandchildren. There will be a memorial service at Eagles Nest in King George, Va., at a later date. The Cremation Society of Eastern Iowa is assisting the family.Evelyn Yagla
