But they are a team now, one that is sticking with the program Coach Bruce Silverman has put in place, even if involves something called aDownward Dog. vr,This new attitude began to take root last season, senior forward .Jesus Rojas said, when Silverman told the team “it was time to get our heads straight.”“They have realized that it is not just about putting a bunch of good players out there and doing what you want,” Silverman said. “It takes discipline in playing a system, a system that they are unfamiliar with.”Silverman has lined up an extremely difficult nonleague schedule, one that includes trips to Paramount, El Rancho of Pico Rivera and Servite.The Centurions will also lose their bestplayer at midseason.Junior midfielder Amirgy Pineda won an audition to play with The Chance-Nike Academy, which lines up games with academy teams from professional clubs in Europe. That has aj-* ways been my position, so it will be good for me to play there,” Rojas said. “We (ail of the seniors) have to carry the team on our backs.‘Losing (Pineda) puts more pressure on all of us, but really there is already pressure on all of us to earn our place on the field.”Century' will rely heavily on Ronaldo Pineda, Amirgy’s cousin, who was first-team All-County last season and scored24 goals.Ronaldo Pineda, Silverman said, has be-., come proficient playing with his back to the ball, so when he collects a pass, “he just makes his turn and scores.”“I know I am going to have to step up thir year because Ami was the one that we would rely on to get in behind players,” Ronaldo Pineda said. “He would create space for us and leave us the easy part: scoring goals.” ft' . ^Century always has depth, so don’t discount the Centurions’ chances to play for a« CIF championship this season.“I still believe we have a solid team with- out him (Amirgy Pineda),” Rojas said.
