Dumortier claims that the gun will completely sweep a given zone, leaving no intervening space in which It would be comparatively safe for any body of troops to move. While one battery of the gun is tiring at a range of 2,000 yards another will simultaneously fire at 300 yards, increasing or diminishing its range as may be necessary. The gun rests on a four-wheeled carriage, and works on an adjustable swivel steel platform, so that it can be turned in any direction. Earth of the two batteries has ten barrels, and the magazine is loaded automatically. It is said that 450 Lebel balls can be fired per minute.
