Two men were killed and a third injured early Sunday morning when their car went out of control and tumbled end over end on the Vineyard Avenue on-ramp to the San Bernardino Freeway.John W. Strona, 21, of 309 W. 24th St., Ontario, and Ernest S. Ancone, 27, of 4145 Los Serranos Blvd., Chino, were dead on arrival at San Antonio Community Hospital in Upland.They were passengers in the vehicle.The driver, Ronald E. Stiles, 24, of 1222 E. Grand Ave., was reported in fair condition today at the hospital. He is in the intensive care unit with multiple cuts and scrapes plus a possibleback injury.The accident .occurred at approximately 5:20 a.m. Sunday. After talking with several witnesses, highway patrolmen reported that Stiles apparently was traveling on the Vineyard Avenue on-ramp to the westbound lanes of the freeway when he failed to negotiate a curve on the ramp. His car left the roadway and, according to one witness in a nearby home who was awakened from his sleep by the sound of the crash, turned end over end before coming to rest on its top.All three of the occupants were thrown out of the car. Strona had' been sitting in the right front seat and Ancone wasin the right rear seat, according to the highway patrol. The auto was airborne for 20 feet, patrolmen said.That section of the freeway is currently undergoing construction of an additional traffic lane and the on-ramp was clearly marked with red plastic cones and paddle reflectors indicatinga construction zone, patrolmen said.All three men had been attending a party at a residence on Vineyard Avenue a block from the freeway and were returning home when the accident occurred, according to friends. Several people at the party came across Stiles’ overturned car moments after the mishap.Highway patrolmen said they have been unable to talk with Stiles since the accident because of his condition.Strona was a 1967 graduate of Upland High School. He was born in Pomona but later moved to Upland. He had served in the Navy for the past two years, seeing duty in Vietnam aboard the USS Qaupaw. He was discharged from active duty three weeks ago and had been home only a short time.He is survived by his parents, John P. Strona Jr. of Pomona and Mrs. Elizabeth B. Hein ofUpland; and by two sisters,Todd Memorial Chapel Is In charge of funeral arrangements.A native of Brookland, New York, Ancone had been a Montclair resident for 15 years.He is survived by his widow, Ma^y Ann, of the home address; a daughter, Wendy; parents, Mr. and Mrs. Jack Ancone, Montclair; three brothers, Michael and Steven Ancone, both of Montclair, and Robert Ancone of New York; a sister, Jacqualine, of Montclair; and a grandmother, Mrs. Lucy Bene-vento, of New York.Funeral arrangements areMrs. Genoa Roy of Upland and pending at Draper Mortuary inMrs. Linda Benthall of Ontario.Ontario.JOHN STRONA
