County political machine two years ago is more possible today than ever before. The 4341 total vote last Tuesday, political dopeSters who know who each of the voters were will tell you, indicated a strong swing against the dominance of the Independent Club. These close followers of local politics are of the opinion that the Independent Club cast only two to. three hundred more than the unorganized group that voted without affiliation with that organization. Even the closest friends of the Independent party give that organization more than 500 votes majority in the Tuesday balloting. IAnd why is this tremendous swing away from the standards of the Independent Club so evident? Why was the situation so parallel to the whipping Jim Neal gave the city-county machine two years ago?For one thing, the answer may be found in the number of vacant business buildings in Laredo and the very low rent demands for those that are occupied. These vacant buildings and low rent demands are laid at the door of the Independent Club by practically every business man in Laredo. Check any business block in Lare do, without one single exception, that has as many as three business houses in that block. There, without an exception, will you find these business men and women agreed that this astounding Situation is due to those in political power. This is regrettable because most of those who are holding office by the vote of the people are wide-awake and want to be progressive, This majority has as millstones around their necks certain running mates who hold their offices solely for the salaries without any idea of getting behind-Laredo in a constructive manner to increase the city’s value. This minority, and they stand out glaringly and are obvious, throws a cloud over the majority. Undoubtedly a majority of the, voters of Webb County prefer most of those now in office. The Times wants to make its position perfectly dear. We certainly, like the business institutions, aim to be with all those in or out of the party, who are attempting to held| Laredo grow. *We aim to be just as vigorously opposed to those few who are nothing but job-sitters and who are holding back this city from the place it deserves in the march of progress. The facts of Tuesday’s elections might as well be faced and can well be studied by those holding office by the grace of the voters of Laredo and Webb County. The unorganized voters of this county without spending any money or holding any meetings went to the polls and voted in practically equal numbers with the Independent Club.Anybody with two bits worth of judgment can see that organized opposition with hard striking, honest, efficient leadership and a well financed campaign chest could poll from 500 to a thousand more votes in Webb County against the real enemies of a prosperous Laredo and Webb County. The time to start is now. See that the underpaid firemen, policemen and school teachers get their salaries reset with a raise of $25 a month, at the very lowest, without delay. In conclusion, we believe the time has arrived, and is fully ripe, for the progressive people of this section to do one of two things.First, get some immediate action from some of our mole-boring office holders who are killing this city and county by their inactivity and by constantly discouraging progress.Second, get some live-wire, progressive, patriotic citizens in these places.n a ai# a vkiiipIupa iiiaii a mWHPHKepTinMIByTA desj in the V perfect ] an insp.i Hig\ Sc of an a highly i Buccanc leading tussle pi redo Hi huge crc mvas a 7 Coach rated as game fa a tight charging ors. colcl for a sli minutes(Cit3Fordhj Center Detroi Denve Boston Harvai Indian Manha Temph Navy ; Penn 1 Villanc Hardin leyan 0.Army Holy C Holy C Carneg Pitt 34 Prince toiMarqult; Nebras Minnes Northv Ohio S Kansas MissouTCU 2 Texas
