M’KIN LEY HIGH FIGURESIN TIE WITH YOUNGSTOWNBy CARJi DUjJjOSYOUNGSTOWN, Nov. 5.—McKinley High of Canton anrl South High of this city fought to a 14-14 tie here this afternoon in one of the greatestand most spectacularscholastic football games ever played on the local field. Extensive use of the forward pass by the teams filled the contest with thrills which started soon after the gamo^ began and never ceaseduntil the last whistle.• • •The Red and Black deserved a better fate than that which they received, outplaying Youngstown team In almost every period of tho game. With five regulars absent because of Ineligibility the McKinleyites showed plenty of fight. Several poor decisions by the Field Judge Eggert cost victory over tho local team.• e •South's great forward passing machine was able to do very little against the McKinleyites, although two of their passes were turned into touchdowns. The one that tied the score was shady. For a time it looked like tho McKinleyites would leAve the field, but the matter was finally compromised and It was McKinley’s ball and five yards to go. McKinley made only three yards on the next play which would have given them first down, and Kennedy was forced to attempt a drop kick from the GO-yd line which he failed. Then South worked a beautiful pass, good for 80 yards for a touchdown. Several other decisions by Eggert brought storm® of protest from the Red and Black.• • •Eleven first downs were made by tho McKinleyites while Youngstown was only able to make the required distance 10 times, several of them being due to penalties Inflicted by the officials. In forward passing South attempted 25 passes and was only able to complete Fix for a total gain of 130 yards. Several of the Youngstown passes were intercepted. Jacobs stepped back to attempt a forward pass, but Vleth-rneyer and Kennedy broke through the line, Kennedy knocking the player down, and Viethrneyer pickingthe ball up and running for a touchdown.At the opening of the third quarter It looked like McKinley was going to score another touchdown. South kicked off to the Red and Black rim! line bucks by Kennedy and Johnson gave the Red and Black four first downs in a row, taking the ball to South’s 2-yd line, but they lacked the punch to carry the hall across.
