Buck is accused of killing Darren Gerdemann, 3, the son of his live-in girlfriend, Trenia Gerdemann, on Nov. 25, 1991.Buck has pleaded not guilty by reason of insanity.Gerdemann testified Tuesday that Buck believed in reincarnation.“He felt that in a past life he had done something really bad,” she said. “He thought he knew what it was, but he wouldn’t tell me. He thought he was going to do something bad in this life.”The prosecution contends that after becoming angry with Darren, Buck shot him in the head with a pellet gun and slit his throat with aknife.Police found Darren’s body in a garbage bag in a picnic cooler in the basement.George Wright, an Evansdale police officer, testified that Buck admitted shooting Darren after Buck was arrested at the couple’s home.He said Buck said that when he saw the boy’s wound on his forehead, he thought Darren was suffering, so he cut his throat and drained his blood into the bathtub.“He stated he went and got the knife because he couldn’t take the screaming,” Wright said.Buck waived his right to a jury trial.
