Roberts a well to do farmer of Lafayette township committed suicide Saturday morning iu the barn at hia home a half mile east of Chippewa Lake. Ill health was the cause. He had been ill for several years.Mr Roberts rose as usual Saturday morning. The family noticed nothing wrong, and after eight o’clock he left, as his wife supposed, to go to the woods north of the house. As he failed to appear at the time expected, Mrs. Roberts supposed he had succumbed to the heat, and she and her daughter, Hazel, went to the woods to look for him. Failing to find him, thev went to the barn where the son Delbert, was at work.Mrs. Roberts told her son of his father'sdsiappearance, and asked hint tohelpfind him. As she was talking, she hap* pened to step back, and as she did, she saw him as she thought, standing in the hay tuow. She exclaimed, Why, there he stands now. Delbert the son ran up the ladder and saw the true state of affairs. He called to his sister Father has hung himself, get a knife quick.The girl ran for a knife and the manwas cut down but, he was dead.When Mr. Roberts left the house instead of going to the woods, he slipped around to the rear door of the barn, and while his son was at work in the front, climbed up the ladder to the hay mow. He wrapped a rope around the purline plate and probably jumped sideways. His feet were within a few inches of the floor of the hay mow, and when his wife saw him, she could not see his feet, and supposed, he was standing on the floor, she wondered why he did not speak.Coroner Robinsouj as called and at once went to the scene. He viewed the body and will render a verdict of suicide by hanging.Mr. Roberts was lorn Sept, 14, 1844, and was past 67 years old at the time of his death. He leaves a widow, two sons and a daughter. The funeral was held Tuesday afternoon at the house. Rev.IMton pastor of the t’. B church of which Mr. Roberts' family are members, officiated, aud burial was made in Spring Grove, Medina.
