THURSDAY, MAY 12, 1931MRS. E. 0. CARPENTER IS CALLED.Death Follows Illness of More ThanThree Months.The death of Mrs. E. O. Carpenter, which occurred In the Mayo hospital in Rochester, Minn., Friday morning of last week, came as a distinct shock to Rook Rapids people who watched her brave struggle for life during a period of nearly one hundred days in which she was in that institution and the McKenna n hospital in Sioux Falls. Thoroughly respected and admired by all, and beloved by a host of friends in every walk in life, her death is a keen and almost personal loss to the entire community.Her remains were brought to the family home in this city Sunday morning, and on Tuesday afternoon at 3 o'clock, were laid at rest in lliverview cemetery, beside the father and mother, who preceded her in death. The service was a beautiful one, and was conducted under auspices of the P. E. O. sisterhood, with Rev. Stewart H. Smith, pastor of the Congregational church, officiating. There was a large concourse of friends and neighbors, and a wealth of floral offerings attested in a small measure the respect in which she was held.Winnie May Shannon, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. V. IT. Shnnn, was horn October 20th, 1870, at Elgin, Iowa.Three years later the family moved.to Rock Rapids where they have since made their home and where have occurred the deaths of Mr. Shannon, June 10, 18S0, and of Mrs. Shannon on May 0th, 1010.In 1802, at the age of 15 years, Mrs. Carpenter graduated from the Rock Rapids high school, and in the following September she entered Grinndl college, then known as Iowa college, where she completed a four years Liberal Arts course, grnduating-dn the class of 1800.
