Jolm Rogers Bible.•Tbere id To the possession of tbe Potter family of Rhode Island,* said a distant relative of tbat family living in New York, *a Bible, wblcb is not only notable for its antiquity, but for tbe history connected with it. It belonged to Jobn Rogers, fcbo martyr During the perseeutions of the early martyrs hebid it to keep it from falling into the tidbds of Gardiner and Bonner or tbeir spies. Jobn Rogers was burned at tbe stake more than three centuries and a quarter ago. After bia death tbe bibte fell into the hands of bis eldest sen, denscendaots of whom came to America in 1035, bringing tbe book with them. This was tbe family of James Rogers, who, in travelling through the New England wilderness, earned tbe tible In bis bosom and used it for pillow. It was beleved tbat it was an amulet that kept off the devil add the Indians. It deceded through three generations of the Rogerses in tbia to Judith Rogers, woo married Thomas Potter of Hopkimoo, R. IM in 1758. Tbe Bible has been in the possession of tbe PotterI family ever since. It is Mattbewa or Ctanmeris bible, and Is not divided into verses.
