Hiram Killy, an inmate of tbe South Carolina State Lunatic Asylum, killed bis room-mate, a man named Calabacher, by fracturing bis skull with a stone bowl. Twenty-five years ago Kelly killed his mother, and was tried for his life^but acquitted on a pica of insanity. He was sent to the Asylum, where he has remained ever since, bearing the reputation of a harmless, good-natured man. His victim had been only insane three months, and was a native of Athens, Greece, where he was for many years regarded as an eminent scholar, being a Professor in one of the leading universities there. Kelly says he killed Calabacher, but his account of the affair is vague and senseless.
