NINE PIONEERSOF FIFTY YEARSMET AT HOME OFA. 0. PETERSONNine citizens, of Esthorvlllc, attended a -gathering last Monday evening at the A. O. Peterson home, the occasion, was the 77th birthday of Mr. Peterson; None knew what the occasion was for the gathering until after the dinner hour when Mr. Peterson appraised them of the 'fact that he was a year older.Atl present and those invited and not present were men who had resided in this city for fifty years or more. They wero-A. O. Peterson, Mayor M. K. Whelan, G. C. Allen, Sam Collins, j. W. Lucas, J. J. Klopp, Chns. Barber, H. O. Sillge and Kirt Allen. Three others were to have been there but were unable to attend.There was a bountiful dinner .served. As Mr. Peterson put It he wanted an old time dinner sercvd. IP that is the kind they always served in the olden days, then we are for going back to the good old days.There, were present on this occasion thneo of the members of the first ball team In Esthervllle known as the “Northern Blizzards.” There are only four of these men left at this time: G. C. Allen who was the captain of the team; Sam Collins, A. 0. Peterson and John Corey, of Spencer.After tho dinner hour it was decided to organize an Old Settlers Association. Those eligible to membership are residents who have lived In Bmraet County for -fifty years cr more. M. K. Whelan was elected president of the association; G. C.Allen, vice president, and''A^ O. Peterson, secretary and treasurer. Other committees will be appointed as needed.It was also decided to hold another old timers picnic in the Stnto Park on tho 19th of August. By that time there should be a large membership and a good working body in the organization. The park makes a most desirable place to hold a meeting of this character and the attendance should bo large at this season of the year.After the meeting it was suggested that we go to the Sorenson Studio and get a picture? taken of those present. Thoro were nine In the picture and they were arranged In such a manner that the three members of the former ball team; were placed together.This was a most enjoyable occas-lont It was a fine party and they all wished Mr. Peterson many more happy birthdays.Alt;
