Its business was hJaeksmithing and wood-working. Thomas Ewing was the master blacksmith, with Henry Gieseke, (still 11 v-1 ing), as bis blacksmith partner, j with Peter Awenius, the boss woodwork man, and bis brouier, Charles Awenius—‘“Uncle Charlie,” also still living in this city), as his assistant. A blacksmith workmen, the firm had Wadd Adarrts, now a resident of this city, and the late Tom Harrington. Adams and Harrington were quiet fellows, but each had a streak of sly | devilment that would once in awhile creep out, and it was these two who caused the big stampede.In those early days these workmen went at their labors as searly as ; o’clock in Jhe morning and many'a night worked as late as 9 or 10 o’clock—and thought nothing of it. Such athing as “overtime” was never thought of,' but so lqng as they Were needed at the ^shop they stayed and worked. Now a few words as to this old shop and its location: The building now being remodeled by? Sprowl Bros, was once the G.
