E. Parmley testified that Mrs. Margaret White, who seeks custody of the oaby she claims is of her birth, was seriously ill and confined to bedMrs. White has sued for a writ of habeas corpus to secure custody of the child. She preuously had signed a statement asserting that she is the mother of the infant,A jammed courtroom was on hand in district court this morning when Judge ColUngs called the jhearing of all cases pertaining to the infant. MJames T. Brooks, attorney for j ons of the couples seeking to adopt j the infant, stated that hit clients | did not wish to contest any claim of Mrs. White's to the child, but j added that if the court did not award the infant to her, then they ( would pursue their plea lor adoption. .if ;'): J. 4? jJ, A. Coffey, attorney for another couple, stated that this wtl I their attitude in the matter, and although none of the attorneys rep- j resenting five other couples seeking the child made formal statements, it was generally understood that none would contest the alleged mother s claims, but would seek to adopt the baby if it is not awarded to Mrs. White.Judge Collinga then ordered that hearing on the petition for writ of ha be as corpus would be first heard; that if the court awarded the child to Mrs. White that would end the matter; but that If the child was not awardedto her, then the seven petitioners to adopt the child could present their cases.Charles Sullivan, attorney for Mrs White, asked for postponement of the hearing due to Mrs. Whites inability to appear in court. As» hour's delay was granted. and upon reconvening of the court, Dr. Parmley testified that t | for Mis.
