MotorcycleCauses CityFirstOne young man was killed and another injured in a motorcycle accident shortly after 2 a.m. Sunday at Erie Avenue and Jefferson Street.The victim, John Michael Win-inger, 22, of Box 92, Twelve Mile, died at 3:39 a,m-.at Memorial Hospital. His death was attributed to severe lacerations and internal injuries.A passenger on the motorcycle driven by Wininger, Danny J. Vitello, 22, of 600 Tanguy St., suffered possible internal injuries. He was reported in fair condition at Grissom Air Force Base Hospital, where he was transferred from Memorial Hospital.Investigating officers said the accident is believed to have occurred when Wininger, headed -east on Erie Avenue, swerved to avoid an auto and crashed into a telephone pole.Vitello told officers WiningerJOHN WININGERwas going to take him home and they were riding east on Erie Avenue to 37th Street. According to Vitello, an unidenti-Winamac Boy KilledIn Bicycle AccidentWINAMAC — An eight-year-old boy was killed at 7:45 a.m. Monday when the bicycle he was riding was hit by a car at the south edge of town on U.S. 35.The victim was Scott Robert March, of Rt. 2, whose father, Robert, is assistant basketball coach and teacher at 'Winamac Community High School.Chier of Police Clarence Towe-son, who investigated, stated the hoy was en route north when he apparently lost control and swerved into the path of a car driven by Alberta Morn son, 69. Rt. 2, La Porte.He was dead on arrival at Pulaski Memorial Hospital. Dr.The Morrison woman was not charged.The victim was born Nov. 27, 1962 at Knox, son of Robert and Karen Riffil March. The family moved to this community seven years ago.He would have entered the third grade this fall. A Cub Scout, he also played ball in the minor league and u -nded the United Methodist C ch.Survivors with the parents are a sister, Debra Jo, at home; paternal grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Dari March, Rt. 2, Star City; maternal grandmother, Mrs. Alice Riffil, Winamac; paternal great-grandparents, Mr.One Hurtfied vehicle pulled out from I7th Street and Wininger lost control of his. motocycle. It went down, on its side and slid into the pole on the corner of Jefferson and Erie Avenue.Police said one witness to the accident reported that the motorcycle came around the corner at a high rate of speed, failed to negotiate the curve and went down on its side, andthen flew through the air into the pole.Officers said that the cycle left marks on the pole approximately two feet off the ground.According to Coroner Wolf, the accident remains under investigation. Wolf requested the driver of a white -Valiant, whostopped at the scene of the accident but drove away before talking with investigators, to contact him.The fatality, the first within the city limits of Logansport this year, boosts the Cass County traffic fatality toll for 1971 tosix. On this date in 1970 the countv also had recorded sixmdfatalities.Born Feb. 1, 1949, in Kokomo, the crash victim was the son of John H. and Kathaleen Morris Wininger. A graduate of Caston High School in 1967, Wininger was discharged from the United States Army March 12 after serving in Germany. He had lived in Twelve Mile for 10 years.Surviving with the parents are the paternal grandfather,. Charles Wininger, Walton; the maternal ...-grandmother, Mrs. Lula Morris; one brother, Jerry; and two sisters, Mrs. Judy Hite and Mrs. Joan Murphy, Kokomo.Funeral services will be conducted at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Thomas-Murray Funeral Home, Galveston, with the Rev. G. B. Hanna officiating. Burial will be the Galveston Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home after noon Tuesday.
