MRS. W. G. CARTER SUR | SPRISED WITH DINNER ON 1 72ND BIRTHDAY SUNDAY jMrs. W. G. Carter was pleasant-| ly surprised at her home, 1001 South Marion Street, Sunday at the noon hour by a number of her friends bringing well-filled baskets of “good eats” for a dinner in honor and celebration of her 72nd birthday which was Monday, June126.Mrs. Carter is enjoying good health and is very active for her age and is the mother of eleven children, nine of which are living and are: Mrs. Lelia Ellis of Car-bondale, Mrs. Mary Kias of Blue Island, Illinois, Ray and Donald jCarter of Chicago. Mrs. Helen Bat-teau of near DeSoto, Mrs. Sarah McDaniel of near Murphysboro, Mrs. Lucille Gaines of Houston, Texas, Mrs. Nellie Corzine of Col-; umbia, S. C., and Lieut. WilliamCarter, now serving in the armedforces overseas. Not only has shea son serving in the service but she is also a Gold Star mother from the last world war one.Among the many lovely gifts she received from her friends who surprised her she was presented with a beautiful decorated birtn-1 day cake bearing many candles, t i which were later lighted. She was j 1 also the recipient of many other j 1 gifts from her children, grand- j • children, and other relatives and- friends. Also received numerous- greetings and calls from her many? friends here. 'Those present for the happy oc- 1- casion of surprising the guest of -1 honor were Mrs. Perry Hoyle, and, daughters, Misses Barbara andj Pauline, and son. Perry, Mrs. Lelia j s Ellis, of Carbondale, Mr. and Mrs. r Clyde Cochran and daughter, Mary f Frances, of Marion, Mr. and Mrs. i I Doc Batteau, and seven children s of near DeSoto, Mr. and Mrs. Ted McDaniel and two children, Sarah e Eva and Mary Lou, Mrs. Rolla t Brooks, Mrs. Rachel Dexter, Mrs. e Laura Morris, Mrs, Art Heame, t daughter Eva. and her son Bob, and the honored guest and her husband, Mr. and Mrs. W.
