Leach and family barely escaped with their lives and the Leach home and two business houses were destroyed, entailing a loss of more than $20,000, in a fire early Sunday morning, which threatened destruction to the entire west side of the public square and a half dozen adjoining dwellings. Tho origin of the fire is not known.When Mr. and Mrs. Leach were aroused from their beds the entire end of the house was ablaze and the roof of the Scott Brothers warehouse, next door, was failing in. In escaping from the blazing house, Mr. •Leach suffered serious burns.Mrs. Leach, who is a candidate for representative, representing the Woman’s Suffrage party in Sullivan county, and who is head of the suffragette movement in southern Indiana, lost a law library valued at $2,000.The total loss is estimate d at $27,-500, with about $18,000 insurance.
