More than 40 members and guests witnessed the presentation of an award and other gifts to Robert Phillips, who was named Father of the Year. He was nominated by his daughter, Cindy Sloan of Wiggins, Miss. Her letter was read by Donna Houck, committee chairman, who also made the presentation.During the business session presided over by Hobart Tredway, the closing of the Beardstown bridge was the major topic of discussion. Julane Fowler reported that a survey was taken at the request of Beardstown retailers regarding the possibility of delaying the bridge's closing until after the Christmas holidays. Another possibility surveyed was one-lane traffic with the bridge being closed for a two-year stretch. Various groups as well as individuals are continuing a search for a workable solution. A recent meeting in Beardstown provided no answers.Sunday, June 10Annetta Fuller. White Hall Linda Tiffany, Carrollton Roy Jackson, White HallAt Beardstown Admissions Friday, June 8 Marion LeMaster.
