They were determined to reach beyond thisstandard and strive for excellence. They envisioned a school that would be competitive with the finest schools’ in the nation. The administration and faculty continue tosupport this mission by maintaining high expectations for student achievement and by focusing on and improving student learning through school-wide goals, a rigorous curriculum and diversified instructional strategies.Cedar Creek is fully accredited by the Louisiana Department of Education and is the first school in the state of Louisiana to be dually accredited by the Southern Association of Independent Schools and the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools through the newly upgraded reaccreditation program. Participating schools are required to develop a five-year plan for improvingstudent achievement. This planmeets the school’s objective to continually improve our academic program.Cedar Creek School is committed to an ongoing program of professional development, which is proven to result in high levels of student achievement. Included in this professional plan, teachers in grades K-12 have been working with a professional curriculum consultant to review, evaluate and revise our mathematics, English/language arts and science currieulums. This process will be expanded to include all disciplines resulting in improved student learning in the classroom and improved student performance on standardized tests. Our goal is to enhance the academic development of all our students and to ensurethat our students are challenged with a program of study that will prepare them for success,not only at Cedar Creek, but also in their post-secondary pursuits of college and careen - Adedicated faculty and small classes support a traditional core curriculum, grounded in the liberal arts and sciences marked by a spirit of inquiry and reflection. Higher order thinking skills are encouraged in all classrooms from early elementary through high school. Cedar Creek students are accustomed to approaching academics in this way as is reflected by their continued academic success. In support of the belief that an appreciation for the arts is a critical part of the human life, Cedar Creek School includes fine arts instruction in our elementary school curriculum.An ambitious program of co-curricular activities that encourages each student to develop his or her potential intellectually, socially and personally complements the school’s rigorous academicprogram. Teachers encourage students to engage in learning beyond the classroom by partici-i pa ting in selective workshopsand conferences that include the National Young Leader’s Conference, Sewanee Young Writers Conference, the North Louisiana AHEC Program and the ULM Biological Research Program.Cedar Creek is a school devoted to developing the whole person; therefore students in Pre-K through 12th grade participate in a daily physical education program. Students are encouraged to participate in the school's full range of athletic programs, and athletes strive to meet the same standards of excellence expected in their classrooms. Cedar Creek School is proud of its athletic record, which includes District Championships in football and softball and currently holds the state title in girls' cross country for the seventh consecutive year. A consistent number ofstudent athletes participate in International Sports Camps. This year two students have earned berths on the prestigious Louisiana High School Athletic Association Composite Aca-dem ic All State teams. The team is comprise of athletes from all seven classes, and Cedar Creek has been recognized in girls’ basketball and softball.Cedar Creek’s commitment to educational excellence has made the school a recognizable leader in Louisiana and the nation. The school has an unparalleled record of state and national scholarships and awards. In the past five years students have received honors that include: National Merit Scholar, National Merit Finalist, National Merit Semi-Finalist, National Merit Commended Student, National Science Scholars Scholarship, All-USA Today AcademieTeam Award, NCTE Writing Award, Coca-Cola Competition Semi-Finalist and the AmericanAchievement Award.The class of 2008 is noted for its outstanding academic achievement and active involvement in student government, athletics and campus organizations. The 36 member class includes a National Merit Commended Student as well as a National Merit Finalist. The average composite ACT score for the class of 2008 is 25.42, with the top quartile achieving an average composite of 29.67, and the top half averageromposite of 27:78. Comparatively -the average composite for,the state of Louisiana is 20:1 and for the nation, 20.2.Cedar Creek Principal Connie Bradford shares the following thoughts, “The trend in education today seems to be preparingthe childfor a successful career. We believe education prepares children for successful lives. It is not merely the transfer of skills or Knowledge, but also the imparting of values that direct their use. That goal reflects our Mission Statement which guides everything we do at this school.”Bradford adds, “We must settle for nothing less than the best educational experience for students and we must continue to extend our vision to guarantee that experience to a new generation of North-Louisianans.
