Retiring colonel honored at reception/ •-, ... .Gen. James V. Hartinger invited friends, family and coworkers of Col. Richard P. MacLeod to attend a military ceremony in Col. MacLeod’s honor, to be followed by a reception, upon the occasion of his retirement from the Air Force.The ballroom at the Peterson A4r Force Base Officers’ Club was filled with well-wishers, both civilian and military. Sitting proudly in the front row were Dick’s wife Sarah and their two children, Kimberly and Alec (who has just become an Eagle Scout). Behind them were Dick’s mother, his brother, Father Tom MacLeod, Sarah’s parents, Frank and Ted Mancari of Holden, W.Va., and Kimberly’s fiance, 2nd Lt. Robin Hamlin, who graduated from the Air Force Academy two days earlier, and his family. QListening intently while Gen. Hartinger presented Dick with the Defense Superior Service Medal and the talk in which he explained why he thought so highly of his Chief of Staff were, among the many, Helen Diesterweg, Senior Master Sgt. Joe Welty, Ann Marie Caton, Col. Ron Pistone, the new Chief of Staff, Col. Tom Moorman, Chaplain Bobby Black and Col. Lars Vedvick The honored colonel was also presented with a flag from the Space Command’s shuttle Columbia that was carried on the 1982 flight.Applauding as Sarah stepped forward to receive a certificate of appreciation from the general were Dick Stovel, George Douglas, Norm Coleman, Joe Reich, A1 Uhalt, Miss Atha and Tommy Moorman, Marilyn and Bill Lindeman (who just moved back to Colorado Springs from Litchfield Park, Ariz.) and Svava and Chappy Chapman The retired generals could well appreciate the MacLeod accomplishments and also those of pretty SarahUnbelievably, the MacLeod’s daughter, Kim, chose the following day for her marriage to Robin Hamlin so, in one week, the MacLeod family entertained many house guests, attended all of the AFA graduation activities,retired from a lifelong career and had a large wedding.When the excitement subsides, the MacLeods will be in their new Kissing Camels home and involved in the community and in business. They are owners of Bowies Gold and Diamond Jewelry.Caroliners: Oops — reports of the Hon. Robin Wilson’s impersonation were greatly exaggerated. She was responsible for organizing invitation lists tor the preview party on the opening evening on June 29 of the Colorado Opera Festival Guild’s annual fund raiser, the Antique Show and Sale.
