Peace River Baseball And Basketball Teams Won Whitelaw SportsCrowds of people from all directions gathered at Whitelaw on Wednesday afternoon to attend the annual sports, and the weather was fine although there was a cold breeze most of the day.Peace River took the baseball honors, winning from Whitelaw in the first game and from Berwyn in the final. Whitelaw in the first games won from Last Lake and Berwyn from Fairview.In men's softball, Whitelaw won from Burnt River also Golden Meadow in the final. The Last Lake ladies' team won from Whitelaw and Fairview won from Last Lake in the final.Peace River also won the basketball tournament, the ladies' team winning from Fairview and Berwyn. Berwyn won their place in the final by defeating Whitelaw. Peace River men’s team won from Whitelaw. An item that created considerable interest was the greasy pig contest. Rick Glover apparently had the right idea for a grip on the animal and he was awarded the prize.A feature of the sports was the attendance of the Peace River Brass Band which was augmented for the occasion by members of the Berwyn band. Their playing,was greatly enjoyed and it created the desired carnival spirit.Small sports were entered intoenthusiastically by the children, and the day ended with a big ' dance.
