'Orchids In The Moonlight' Is Theme400 Attend NPHS PromAmid a dreamy “Orchids in the Moonlight setting, NewPhiladelphia High's Seniors and Juniors danced last night at the prom held this year in the new school gymnasium. The spaciousness of the gymnasium provided ample room for the more than 400 persons attending, including members of the faculty, their wives and husbands and members of the Board of Education and their wives. The Senior Class colors of orchid and silver were used in the decorations which began in the large foyer where a garden setting had been created against a simulated stone wall background. Here, a white, silver and orchid lawn swing was centered on an open, grass covered enclosure, the entrance to which was marked with two old - fashioned lamp posts. In one corner, large, green plants were grouped around a fountain of three, staggered tiers in which there were live gold fish and floating peonies. Vine covered trellis completed the garden. The two entrances to the gymnasium had elaborately covered white trellis arches bedecked with orchids and fresh rosebuds. The two, long side walls were veiled with closely spaced, twisted streamers in alternating orchid and silver. At the far end, a silvery, crescent moon and starsglittered against a filmy orchidcolored backdrop which also proclaimed the prom theme in large letters. It was here that Blaine Shively’s Rhythm Club orchestra played for the dancing before a row of palm tree silhouettes. The opposite end of the gym had a low stone wall and a deep blue, star sprinkled sky. On the mezzanine at either side were tables covered with white cloths and centered with arrangements of purple iris in low. crystal bowls to give the orchid effect. Punch and cake were served by a gfoup of freshmen waitresses and waiters.Miss Leilia Culby and Dana Savage are faculty advisors for the Juniors who carried out all of the prom arrangements to honor the seniors. Miss Culby wore an orchid presented by members of the Junior Class. The clever dance programs had covers of orchid .suede embellished with a silver crescent moon in one corner and a silver orchid in a lower corner. Running diagonally between these was the lettering in silver of “Orchids in the Moonlight.” Attached to each program, by means of a tasseled silver cord, was a silver pencil.Chairmen of the various groups of juniors in charge of decorations were Patsy Yosick, JohnMurphy, Bob Haney, DoloresRapport, Dale Ncpsa, Joyce Tur-* * # * *ner and Lynda Lukens.
