A man was mowing the grass under the big tree that usually shades my tent, so I went off to find Wayne Gallagher.Wayne is the new director of the State Fair. Before he moved to CamiMus he directed the fair in Texas for 15 years.When Wayne w’as hired, many people thought it was the end of an era The Fair was finally not going to be run by some politician, but by a professional.i\ear me ena 01 our conversation Wayne handed me the new Fair Guide, a color brochure listing the big names in entertainment who will be coming to the Fair this year, people like Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers, Neil Young, Jay Leno, Stevie Nicks and the Temptations A couple of years ago I saw the Temptations and was so excited that I went back to Miller Court m the middle of the night, got up on the stage and tried to imitate them. My imitation was so good that despite the early hour a number of state troopers with a big dog showed up. Tney didn’t applaud, but they didn’t arrest me either.Anyway, I looked through the brochure and concluded that Wayne will never be the mayor of Syracuse. A diligent search of large and small type on all four pages of the Fair Guide shows that it is absolutely devoid of any mention of Wayne, his boss Gov Mano■ NEW STATE FAIR, Page 1-5
