Joseph News-Press and Gazette flag design contest.The contest, sponsored by the St. Joseph newspapers, was held to gain designs of an American flag should Hawaii become a state, necessitating forty-nine stars.Mrs. Scott will receive a duplicate award with Mr. and Mrs R. W. Liss of Klrwtn, Kas,, because their designs arrived at the same time. Thirty-one persons submitted the same design. lt;Stars in Seven RowsMrs. Scott's design put the stars In seven rows of seven stars each In an even-edae rectangular block.All the designs will be offered to the congressional committee whenand if the forty-ninth state is addedto the union.All winners will receive new flagswhen congress makes Its selection. These people will be among the first in the country to ha\e 49-star flags, which should have some sentimental and souvenir value.The entries were Judged by Mayor H. D.
