Voice of the PeopleBand impressiveWe would like to commend the Eau Claire Municipal Band and their director for the fine concerts this season. We especially enjoyed the last one at the State TTieater; the choice of the music was and is great. Owen Park is such a choice place for concerts, with the option of the theater in case of rain. It’s a wonderful band. Why don’t more of the music lovers in Eau claire come to hear the band on Thursday evenings? It is the highlight of the week for us.MR. AND MRS. HARRYMOONEYEau ClaireFirst priorityEighteen days ago, my wife gave birth to our special bright-eyed little girl, Alea Lynn. With two girls already in the family and a son from a previous marriage, I had hoped for another son, however, there wasn’t one moment of sadness from either Mom or Dad on little Alea’s arrival. With tiny hands and feet (smaller that my thumbs) and a body not even seven pounds, she makes one wonder if she will ever get big.No, Alea won’t be the scrapping fullback on one of Coach Tom Crowe’s championship football teams here in Augusta, nor will shewear Dad's of No. 83.Even though our financial situation is not the best and farming only seems to get more difficult as time goes on, little Alea is a welcome addition to our family and loved by all.I can’t describe all the happy, loving faces of the many proud parents I observed watching their babiesthrough the windows ofc the nurservat Luther Hospital. To these proud and sometimes teary-eyed parents I say thank you. Thank you for being parents and for accepting the responsibility of raising your children. Children are special gifts loaned to us by God.Careers, school, jobs, etc. have all become so important to us, many have opted for abortion rather than accept the responsibility of raising their children.I really feel for those who opted for abortion - they are really missing out. What, you may ask? Well, how about the little blond-haired, blueeyed girl who crawls on your lap after a long hard day and says, “I love you. Daddy,” or how about watching your son land his first legal muskie or watching your children climb on the school bus for their first day of school. You see, I wouldn’t trade one of my children for all the jobs or money in the whole world.JOHN PERKOVICHAugustaOut of placeIn reference to “Beaver drops tree, kills canoeist,” July 16, Page 1A:If Douglas County Sheriff MarvinArneson accepts a beaver-chewed tree falling on and killing an unfortunate woman as proof of the existence of a “greater being,” I shudder to think w hat might be his standard of proof in criminal cases.I also shudder when 1 imageArneson telling victims’ families that Ciod wanted their loved ones dead.Proselytizing evangelists like Arneson lack both common sense and common decency.LILY ANTHONYEau Claire
