In fact, the 12-year-old righthander no-hit Oil City through the regulation six innings. And so, Petroleum Valley, with eight ll-year-olds on its rosier, will advance to the District 25 semifinals Wednesday at Clarion, while Oil City, the defending Western Pennsylvania champion, was eliminated from the playoffs after one game.Dunn’s dash to the plate capped a three-run rally for Petroleum Valley, an area located in the Karns City and Moniteau school districts, all the runs scoring alter two were out.(Ml City starter DanGoodrum, a gritty right-hander, went into the seventh trying to protect a 2-1 lead.Things started fairly well for Goodrum as he fanned Bob Easley, walked pinch-hilter John Detrie, but then got another pinch-batter, Terry Young, on a grounder, Detrie moving to second. Then the fireworks started. Dunn dumped a single into center, just out of the reach of Rusty Dawson, scoring Detrie before two errors by the Oil City infield, one by shortstop Seotl Eckert and the other by second baseman Frankie Schossler, brought in the tying and winning runs.Until the seventh Oil City played well on defense, making the plays when it had to lo keep itself in the game on the face of Dunn’s no-hit bid.Schossler, Oil City’s smallest regular, was the near-hero ashis line double lo left in the lop of the seventh not only broke up the no-hitter, but opened the door for two runs which gave OU City a 3-1 lead. The hit came wilh one out, after Eckert had walked, and both runners scored when Ken Bailey, Ihe third baseman, and Sherwin threw the ball around.Oil City's first run came in Ihe third on two other Petroleum Valley errors.
