Bushman, a Gettysburg native, is remarkably spry for a soon-to-be centenarian. When she celebrates her hundredth birthday tomorrow, she will probably enjoy it more than anyone.Miss Bushman is the eldest of 12 children in a family which in-cuded the late Francis X. Bushman, one of the first big movie idols during this century’s Teens and early Twenties. She and her brother, Samuel M. Bushman, the surviving members of the clan, both .show traces of the profile which sent women swooning.But fame and fortune werethings Miss Bushman wished more for her younger brothers and sisters than herself. She regards her years simply as “a respectable.D decent Christian life.VISITED ROME“I never got around verymuch.” she says. School andchurch was all I knew.” Shetraveled to Rome in 1923, when her brother Xavier” was playing Messala in the first Ben Hur” movie, but she spent the rest of Me-;her adult life at home in Balti-in! more.She was born on Friday, July 24, 1868. in Gettysburg, Pa., where her father, John H. Bushman, hada drygoods and notions store. Her mother, the former Mary J. Nor-beck, had been born in Baltimore. Mrs. Bushman had gone to Gettysburg when her father, John Norbeck, who manufactured saddle trees, had been given 24 hoursto leave Baltimore because of his•antislavery opinions.OLDEST CHILDMiss Bushman went to Baltimore when she was five years old. The family moved to a house on the northwest corner of Ar-gyle and Mosher Sts., w'here most of the children were reared. As the oldest child, Miss Bushman helped to bring up the 11 other children.She says that no one in the family was surprised at the subsequent career of Francis X.
