M. 22j New Ferry Given to Water in a Pretty CeremonyNO MONEY TO PAY HOTEL BILL TAKES POISON\VKVVVVll\'VVThe prettiest launching that has over taken place here was the verdict of the 10,000 spectators who watched the Pere Marquette 22 take the water at the yards of the Manitowoc Ship Building Corporation at 11:16 this morning. The river banks in the vicinity of the yards was one mass of people all intent on seeing the big boat glide down the ways and you could hear an involuntary “ah as the big craft started toward the water and then a loud “oh as she hit. It was exactly 11:16 when the big craft hit the water broadside as perfectly as it is possible to do, tilted far over, righted and then rode like the queen of the water that she is.Exact Duplicate of 21The full launching ceremonies were used today with the decorated stand for ship’s sponsor, Miss Badger, a daughter of the general superintendent of the Pere Marquette Railway company. The boat was fly- j i\ ing the full complement of pennants j and the Stars and Stripes. Miss i Badger cracked the bottle over the V how and christened the big ferry just as it started down the ways. The movement was deliberate, un-hastpned and like a giant that know what was in store but unafraid. The whistles shrieked a welcome and a salute as the ship glided toward the water. The whole thing was over in two minutes including the getting of a line to the new ship by the tug j (' Peter Reiss, which was standing by and another big boat was added to the long list that have been born at Manitowoc. The Pere Marquette 22 is an exact duplicate of the 21 built here and launched last March. The 21 has been in service for many weeks now and is more than living up to the promises made for it. The local yards have another contract lor a car ferry of the same type, this one for the Ann Arbor Railway company and the boat is to be delivered next fall. Many Here for EventAmong the guests at the launching wero: Mr. and Mrs. A. 10.
