■ — — ♦-Old and Insane.[Tucoina Now«] .An old gentleman namod Peter Todd Hudson, aged 02 years, was to-day brought before Judge Wlckersham charged with insanity. Ho was, on request of A. Reeves Ayers and othors who are acquainted with him, sent to the Puget Sound College Hospital, where it is hoped ho will soon re jruiu his mental powers.Mr. Hudson is a carpenter, with ids home at Walla Walla. He spent the Fourth of July In Portland, where he had a very bad attack of rheumatism. Ho camo to Tacoma on tho 0th inst. and was hero several days. While in the city ho bought some kind of a remedy for rheumatism and commenced taking it In large doses. His money becoming exhausted here he Anally walked to Sumner, where ho has been-living o(T of wild berries arid his medicine. Lately ho has been acting very strange, so to-day he wus brought to this city to be examined os to his sanity.Mr. Hudson, it is said, was a colonel on General Grant’s staff during the war, and at one time quite a prominent man, but a wound received in the head, family troubles and dissipation have laid him low. It is supposed that his having taken the rheumatic remedy in such large doses hoii»ed cause the present trouble.Tho old soldier is to bo pitied, and tho country he fought to save should see to it that he is treated well
