AGED PIONEER DEAD WELL KNOWNMother of Dr. Hoxey Passed Away Spokane Last Thursday-—Visited Here FrequentlyAfter an illness lasting severalmonths, Mrs. Elizabeth Hoxsey diedpeacefully last Thursday surrounded by ; many relatives and friends. Universally esteemed by all who knew her. She visited here last summer and nearly every summer for many years and was quite well known. The following, taken from the Spokesman-Review of last Friday, will be of interest to the many friends of Dr. Hoxsey, himself one among the first residents of Leav-enworth, coming here in 1892:Mother of six sons, three of whom are physicians and one a druggist, survived also by two daughters, 29 grandchildren, 25 great-grandchildren, a brother, founder of the town of Spangle, and two sisters, Mrs. Elizabeth Hoxsey, aged age 81 years, died yesterday at the home of her son, Dr. T. E. Hoxsey, 703 Cleveland avenue.She was was a pioneer of Washington, having come here in 1884, and is well known throughout the state.Mrs. Hoxsey was born in Tippecanoe county, Ind., June 14, 1833, and on March 3, 1850, was married to the late J. F. Hoxsey, in Madison county 111. In 1884 she and her husband came to Washington to join her brother, William Spangle, who had come overland from Indiana in 1872. and founded the town of Spangle. From that time until 1910 she made her home in Spangle, paying frequent visits to other portions of the state. In 1910, Mrs. Hoxsey, came to Spokane. Here her long and useful life drew to a peaceful close.Those surviving her are: Sons, R.A. Hoxey, Ritzville, Wash., Dr. T. E. Hoxsey and Dr, J. H. Hoxsey, with offices in the Paulsen building; Dr. George W. Hoxsey, Great Northern surgeon at Leavenworth, Wash.; W. E. Hoxsey, proprietor of the Altamont pharmacy, Tenth avenue and Perry street, and J. F. Hoxsey of Rosalia; daughters, Mrs. W. A. Cox, Litchfield, 111., and Mrs. Hubbard of Sprague.The brother, Henry Spangle, and two sisters, Mrs. William Tiffin and Mrs. Caroline Hoke, reside at Spangle.Mrs. Hoxsey will be buried Saturday morning at 10 o’clock in Spangle, the sendees to be held from the Christian church of that place.
