Albert BlackwellBlackwell, 110, One Of County’s Oldest CitizensThe funeral for Albert Blackwell, 110, one of Wilson County’s oldest citizens, if not the oldest, who died Wednesday, will be conducted Saturday at 1 p.m. by Elder James Linsey from Ellis Chapel Free Will Baptist ChurchBlackwell, better known as “Sam,” was born on a farm in Nash County near Spring Hope. He was the oldest of seven children of his freedman parents and hadatleast42 grandchildren. It was not known how many greatgrandchildren he had because a relative once pointed out that two of those 42 grandchildren had 11 children each.Blackwell, in an interview five years ago, was asked if he had a secret for living such a long life.“Nah,” he said, waving his hand at such madness. “There ain’t no secret. The Lord just let me live.”Surviving are seven daughters, Miss Mattie Blackwell, Mrs. Nettie Crumbley, Mrs. Betty Evans, Mrs. Hazel King, all of Sims, Mrs. Ella Mae Darden, Mrs. Mattie Hin-nant, both of Wilson, Mrs. Nellie Farmer of Newark, N.J.; one son, Willie Mobley of Sims; 42 grandchildren and many greatgrandchildren.The family will receive friends tonight from 7-8 in the Hamilton Funeral Chapel and will assemble at the residence of Mrs. Mattie Hinnant, Route 1, Wilson, one hour before the funeral in preparation for the procession.
