Friday Is Special DayCity Recreation Program Features Big Island DayBy KRIS SETHERThe important event on our calendar this week is Big Island Day on Friday. Buses will pick up the eager boys and girlsat their respective parks at 11—* a. m. and carry them to Big Island. Each child is to bring a bag lunch and beverage fromhome, or he may buy softdrinks at thestate park. The bus transporta-KRIS tion will cost 20cents for the trip out and back.Upon arrival at Big Island, lunch will be first on the agenda. After their stomachs havebeen satisfied, the children will be divided into three age groups for various organized activities. Among these will be a nature hike, ball games, relays, contests, and a group song fest.At 3 p. m. the troop will once again board the buses to be transported back to the p 1 a y-grounds. Because the park leaders will direct the activities at Big Island, the parks will be closed during these hours on Friday. Last year there was a turn out of well over 200 youngsters for this event, and we’re hoping for even more this year.All - city tournaments will be run off at the usual time this week, 9:15 a. m. on Friday. The badminton and dominoes contests will be held simultaneously as the contestants work to raise the scores of their parks. At the present time, Morin leads in tournament points, but is followed closely by Northside.Morin Park will be the center for tennis instruction beginning Monday and continuing for two weeks. Interested boys and girls may sign up at their parks and report to the Morin tennis courts at the time scheduled for their class. There will be a $1.00 registration fee, and participants are asked to provide their own tennis rackets and balls. If a student does not have a racket available to him, one may be checked out at Morin Park.The schedule for the classes will be as follows:9:00 a. m. to 10:30 a. m. Junior Boys (13 years under) 10:30 a. m. to 12:00 a. m. Junior Girls — 1:30 p. m. to 3:00 p. m. — Senior Boys (14 years over). 3:00 p, m. to 4:30 p. m. — Senior Girls.Tournaments will be heldwithin each class, and Diane Knudson will be the instructor. Let’s see you at the tennis courts on Monday so you won't miss a single lesson!There will be no swimming classes on Friday.
