•NEW CLUBHOUSE DEDICATED TOFormal Presentation of Building: Made in Brief Ceremony$50,000 STRUCTUREGold Plaques Awarded Former Members of Recreation BoardITSteubenville’s new $50,000 club and community house, one of the | latest and finest additions to the j public recreation system, was ded-. icated with brief ceremonies at j Belleview park Thursday night.Municipal officials, heads of the j ~ county, civic representatives and ^Pfriends attended the inspection party and dedication program sponsored by the city recreaton department which accomplished the community house construction with the help of the federal government through the Works Progress Administration.The attractive three story, native stone structure will be officially thrown open to the public next Monday when thousands of persons are expected to gather at the hilltop park to participate in a community celebration of Independence Day.While last night’s dedicatory program was essentially informal, occasion was made to pay tribute to three persons who have contributed outstanding service to public recreation in Steubenville.Gold Plaques AwardedThose honored were City Auditor Joseph A. Cartledge, Mrs. J. B. Fitzsimmons and James D. Smith, all former members of the municipal recreation board.All three received small gold plaques entitling them to free use for life of all municipal recreation facilities and in the presentations by Samuel Pearce, recreation board president, the trio received glowing praise for their individual services towards community betterment through parks and recreation work.The plaques such as presented the three are traditional with the recreation board, but in the history of the department here only three A other persons have been so hon-^ ored.Mayor Accepts BuildingElias Bloch, representing the recreation board, presided over the dedication and others who made remarks besides President Pearce were Recreation Director Ralph B. McClintock and Mayor Earl D. Applegate, who accepted the building in the city’s name. The mayor said:“Members of the recreation board and Director Ralph McClintock deserve the credit for this building. It has been my privilege to make several appointments of members to the park board and 1 am happy to see that much the recreation department has set out to do has been accomplished during my tenure in office.“I want to compliment both present and former members of the board for the really fine work that I has been done.
