having been the first white child bornin Chicago, was today the recipient ofmany congratulations on the occasionof his seventy-seventh birthday. Mr.Beaubien is well-known to the frequenters of the Harrison street policecourt where he has been employed formany years.His father, John B. Beaubien, cameto Chicago firbt in 1804 from his homein Detroit. At that time Chicago wasonly an Indian village. In 1812 hewas engaged by John Jacob Astor at asalary of $1,000 a year as the westernrepresentative of the American Furcompany. Mr. Beaubien, the son, was 1 jborn in old Fort Dearborn and amonghis early recollcctions are the stirringincidents of the Biackhawk war andthe Fort Dearborn massacre.
