PACE TEN-SECTION POURTHE IFuture Unlimited For DentonWomen’s Clubs, Official SaysPossibly no one in Texas knows as' much about women's clubs as Mrs. Ben W, Boyd of Denton, a candidate (his year for president of the Texas Federation or Women's Clubs. Certainly, no one else in I bis area knows as much about Denton clubs, for Mrs. Boyd has been active for some 30 years in women's activities here. The following is taken from an interview Mrs. Boyd held with Elbe! Wood by. Hoc-ord-Chronide women’s news editor who asked Mrs. Boyd about Ihe fulure-Editor. •By MRS. BEN W. BOYDWhat Is the outlook for clubwomen in Denton for the next len years? Not being crystal gazer, that's hard to say.Bui looking at the growth of clubs in Denton, no only in numbers but in projects, interest ard enthusiasm, I believe the future is unlimited.Ten years ago Denton only had or eight federated clubs. Wesixnow' have 38, and 1 couldn’t even guess at the number of clubs not federated, which also play an important part in the club world.WHY JOINJust why do women join clubs? There are various, reasons. Women have more time for club work, since housework has been made easier, bul that is only one reason.I believe women feel the -need to use their minds, to be doing something worthwhile with their spare time. Bul basically, home and children demand the woman's first attention. In club work, a woman has the opportunity to express her opinions on an aduU level. She lias a char.cc to expand her knowledge beyond the formulas, feeding schedulesworking on air conditioning the present building. We hope In ’the future to have a full ► lime hostess for the building.Denton clubs can'l help bul grow. We 3i’e in the very center of intellectual, intelligent and enthusiastic women with vision for (lie future needs of the community. It was through Ihe efforts of the Federated Clubs in Denton ihal TWU was organized and situated in Denton. That was Die foundation of our work. Is it any wonder we have more federated clubs In Denton County than any county In the state? Jl was also the work of the women that we have a library. The library was to be discontinued bul the women got to work, gathered books from door (o door and worked toward appropriations (or the building. Wc now have a library we can be proud ofr and the clubs are still working to provide more and more books and fa cilitics. Eighty - five per cent of the books in the library have been donated-by women’s organizations.CHURCH CROUPSWomen’s church organizations, always important to a community, will continue to influence our club work. With so many active organizations, how can they all find worthwhile' projects? The possibilities are unlimited.Ir. the future, through the efforts of interested club women, we might see a medical center for the underprivileged in Denton, or possibly a family guidance cllnfc or a marriage clinic to help people with their marital problems. We might see a mothers’ helper service organized to assist mothers during prolonged illness. Bight now we could use a legal advisunable toory ]oard /or those pay for legal advice. With the age span lengthened, we might see a special employment bureau for the aged insli-luled in Denton. Women new have more and more influence in law making bodies. Our voices are now being heard and heeded; it is possible some of the restrictians of employment and salaries for the aged might be revised through our efforts. A pension is very necessary for the security for most elderly persons, but it docs seen; a shame they must forfeit it if they make over ■ stated amount.NEW GROUPPossibly one of the best things clubwomen could do in the future would be to organize a body to speak to governing agencies when the need arises.- While companionship is the has-constant!; ing, ever more thii As a i labor foi people a turc. For that reason, women’s clubs will continue to grow In mi miters and importance, because wc all feel ihe desire to he needed. Willi the desire to be needed, to be doing something worthwhile wilh our time, the women will always find something more that needs to be done.As our society continues to progress and grow, we will continuously have new problems to face. Willi new problems to face, there will be new projects for the women to undertake. And as long ns there arc new projects, there will be more clubs organized and more women participating in them.As Denton grows, so will t h cwomen’s clubs in Denton, jn numbers, knowledge and in service. Most clubs have worthwhile projects and are ever seeking new goals. One Denton club has chosen Ihe-City * County-ybrary. as iLs project and has donated large numbers of books, especially those of interest lo youngslcrs. Another club has organized weekly dances for teenagers to provide them a place for weekend recreation.Others have adopted families in need and one has instituted a home for the aged to be built in Denton.YOUNG WOMEN Each year we see new clubs be ing organize 1 At the present, the Woman’s Shakespeare Club is organizing a new department for the younger club women. There is a definite need for more junior women’s rlubs -In De.nton.There is a need for enlargement of the Woman’s Building, and the City and County Federations areHeavy Cains In Number Of Texas Working Women Seen' By 1065, Tcxns’ working popula-1 lous with women lion will increase nearly half million and over half of that gain will be women, .**?-•The Texas Federation of Business and Professional Women’s Clubs says this' predicted faster rise among women workers springs from two causes*.One, the skills of women workers have been proved adaptable to many jobs that industry cnee held only men could perform, Two, the supply of women workers is increasing faster.Bv a seeming quirk, Texas is becoming more and more popu-— have moved force In wartime workers ed indi neecssif been p mnnds have i)have si has ou work in?This trend o force: ingcent wlt; cent w cent n women Will benot qu work in her of than c male |percen force.
