Three years ago Orville Moore, who wears a Tennyson expression, witha brilliant mitjd and engaging manners, came to this county from Lawrence County, Ohio, and was soon engaged as teacher of one of our country schools, winning the esteem and confidence of his patrons and scholars. Among his pupils was a young, rosy-cheeked, comely country la»s named 8allie Barnes. Toward this rustic beauty young Moore turned the flood-tide of his admiration, and before many months became her constant attendant. Among the varied attractions of couiniry school life, debating societies formed no small part, and in these Moore soon became an acknowledged leader, and a hero in the eves of histoo trusting pupil. At one of these meetings,t trihe stated that the fate of a convicted murderer , was too good for the man that would betray the confidence of woman. In the winter of 1882 young Moore solicited the hand of Miss Barnes in. marriage of her parents, who gave their willing consent. Things passed on smoorhly between the two until the close of the spring schools in 1883, when Moore, afterfixing the time of marriage, went to CollegeECorner and wrote back to Miss Barnes that he had been suddenly called home on account of the serious illness of his mother and sister, but in the most endearing terms renewed his vows of love and atf'ection. and promised to 1 soon return and make her his wife. An unbroken correspondence was kept up between the two until August. On the I2tli of that month Sallie Barnes gave birth to a child, and immediately wrote Moore to return I and make her a wife. He returned an answers saying that it would now be impossible for him to marry,, as his family connections were above her own and would not permit it. Blasted hopes and a ruined life stared her in the face. In this glarethe girl's father and friends presented the case before the grard jury, which returned tin indictment for seduction.Miss Barnes was seventeen years old at the birth of the child, of a family of high moral standing, and upon her the breath of a .dishonorable suspicion lmd i\ever been breathed. Your correspondent called on Mr. Moore at his jail quarters this morning, and found him in an agitated condition, seemingly fully aware of the j perilous situation he is now placed in. Inan-i swer to the question whether he had any tiling to say regarding the mutter, he said he had no j statement to make at present, only to deny thecharge made in Thursday’s papers that he hadlilibeen mixed up in a like scrape with a Lawrence County lady. He said no one in Lawrence County would allege anything against hint or his people. To-day ne is busy in search of bail, and the case will probably be continued until the next term of Court, when front seats will fill uj with bald heads, and youth be relegated to the rear, aa justice grinds out the facts of the case. Mr. Barnes, father of the girl, informs us that he will allowno marriage if he can prevent it, but ask fortilt;the successful manner in which he man-{ireaw in seduction cases.Detective Porter is receiving merited praise fqraged the capture of the accused party.
