From the Wheat City Mercury of Jan 18, 1851.(jr7'“The Repository is informed that the pre-test Wheat market m the wealthy and populous State nf Ohio, with a population approximatinp to that of Cities,—a Theatre in successful operation—numerous Wholesale Houses that supply Kanton and o-ther small surrounding towns with goods—c. c Ac.—»® sufficient “charter,” at present, to entitle Massillon to tlie use of the appellation of “city or **Wheat-city.” -j-Verily, this is news. «A Theatre in successful operation/ and the Young Men Thespians—What is the state of your Churches? Massillon had an act oflncorpoiation, and under it borrowed money of a stranger—had their act of incorporation repealed, resisted the payment of its debt. Notwithstanding the denial in the Mercury, of the charge wo made respecting rhe conduct toward James Duncan, it is true to the letter—and further, that gentleman went to a friend, who bed a large claim against the Speculators, and they offered him about one hnlf, and urged him take it. or they would cheat him out of all, as they had done to him. The little ’town of 'Kanton/ (which has a greater population than Mas ail Ion, a charter, mayor, council, etc) ha* never been guilty of such acts.
