IDA THOMPSON ENTERS UPON RESTSHE HAD BEEN AN INVALID MANY YEABSIV s* Gradual® of Earlville High School and a Teacher Before 111' ness Rendered Her Incapable.Mle* Ida Thompson, patient, long' suffering, kind, thoughtful of others rather than of herself through long year# of Invalidism, has gone to her reward.For some time, since the death of her mother some six months ago, she has lived In the old home where so much of her life was spent, attended faithfully by Mrs. Mary Franklin, mother of Mr*. Sbiffiette. That she was falling could be seen by the friends who visited her, but she did not give up, and her greatest care seemed to be that she might have to leave the old home, a condition, which, we are told, had been provided against, and instead of her having to leave, plans had been made for brightening up the old home for her occupancy.Saturday afternoon Mrs. Franklin came to Earlville from the Erickson place east of town, where Miss Thompson lived, to buy some needed articles, leaving Mies Thompson comfortable .In her chair. After her arrival In town. Mlsa Thompson telephoned the Shtfflette home that she was all right and Mrs. Franklin need not hurry unduly In returning Completing her errands In town, Mrs. Franklin was driven to the Erickson place by E. J. Durr, who carried some groceries to the house, he and Mrs. Franklin arriving at the house about the same time. They found Miss Thompson In a semiconscious condition In her chair An empty carbolic add bottle was found and in her lap a china teacup containing carbolic acid which had evidently been diluted somewhat with water That she had swallowed n good portion of the ltquod was apparent. Dr Rayson was summoned and used the stomach pump to remove the poison, but without avail and she breathed her last at 5:30 o’clockIda Thompson was 56 years of age She was born In Norway October 3. 1873. and came to America with her parents at the age of 3 years. They settled in this vicinity and here she has lived practically all her life For twenty-five years she has been almost helpless and for many years past had to be lifted Into and from her chairShe was graduated from the Earl-vllle high school with the class of 1891 and taught school several years Later she was employed for a time In Chicago. Although an Invalid for years, her mental faculties ware very keen; she was a great reader and wrote much, many of her productions having appeared from time to time In the Leader. She was happy when she could attend meetings of her old schoolmates and friends, and loved to have a part In the programs. The high school alumni meetings were an especial delight to her and friends always provided means for her to attend Deputy Coroner Thorsen, of Le-land, Saturday empanneled a coroner’s Jury consisting of Carl Anderson and H. K. Von Ohlen. of Leland, and Russell Conklin, Robert Strong. Thos. Thompson and Fred A. Muel ler of Earlville. The testimony of Mr Durr. Mrs. Franklin and Dr Rayson was taken and the Jury returned a verdict of suicide by drinking carbolic add, while suffering from the despondency caused by 111-health.Funeral services wehe held at the home Monday at 1 o'clock, with Rev J Paul Vincent In charge Mrs. W A.
