To the Editor,The Gettysburg Times,Gettysburg, Pa.Dear Sir:I wish to thank you most heartily for your kind letter of December 19, and for the notices you were so kind as to publ;sh regarding my mother.The papers also came to hand and I shall carefully preserve them.A lette has come to me since theyoif paperfrom a descendant of the Gilbert family at Meroersburg and we may learn more of our family through that source.The head of our immediate family seems to have been Jacob Gilbert, \ farmer, who lived a few miles from four citv. H»* was twice married.Had one son, Barney or Bernard, byhis first wife, and some twelve children by his second. The names of the latter, as my mother gave them to me, and the dates of birth are:Susao or Susannah, January 15,1786, married a Barney Gilbert, saidto have been a county officer in Adams county; family later removed to Tennessee.Magdalena Gilbert. January 5, 1788.No further record.Catherine Gilbert, March 29, 1790, said to have married a man named Beecher, or Beeker, who had a tannery.Elizabeth Gilbert, February 17,1792. Said to have married a man named Saltzgiver. Lived and died in Adams county. Said to have had two sons and one daughter.John Gilbert, November 6,Said to have removed tc some place in northern Ohio.Anna Mary Gilbert, April 26,No further record.Jacob Gilbert. March 16. 1799. posed to have died somewhere in Ohio Mother though* he had two sons,Frank and George.Sarah Gilbert. February 14. 1801.Married Daniel Herr, of Philadelphia, later of Harrisburg. Hotel keeper.Had a number of children. One wasa lawyer.George Gilbert. April 28, 1803.O oach maker at Gettysburg. Removed to Dayton, Ohio, and died there October 14, 1876. Father of Mrs. Died at Gettysburg. Whitmore. jSophia Gilbert, February 20, 1806.Married man named Harmon.Samuel Gilbert, March 23,I1794.1797.Sup-1808.Henry Gilbert, December 20. 1812. No record.Barney Gilbert, the son of the first marriage, also removed to Dayton,iOhio.George Gilbert married Elizabeth Evans, a native of Wales, at Gettysburg. on October 12, 1826.I should like very much to know the ancestry of Jacob Gilbert.Yours truly,HOWARD J.
