By Suzanne Ashe Staff Writer Congratulations. It’s a boy! The first baby born in New Braunfels in 2007 was deliv ered at 3:48 a.m. Monday at McKenna Memorial Hospi tal. Amber and Roy Ramirez of New Braunfels were happy to welcome Jaycob Andrew Ramirez into their family. But the healthy baby, who weighed 6 pounds, 4 ounces and was 19 inches long, came close to being the second infant born at the hospital on New Year's Day. “I came in at 2:30 in the morning, and I thought there would have been another baby already born by then. But then I ended up racing with another girl who was in labor, too,” Ramirez said. Jaycob’s father works out of town and his 21-year-old wife said he was worried he might miss their son's birth. Thankfully, he was still in New Braunfels for the holi days when the couple's final child entered the world, she “Now I have two boys and two girls and that’s it for me.’ Amber Ramirez mother of the first infant born at McKenna Memorial Hospital in 2007 said, “I have three other children at home, ranging in ages from 1 to 4 years old,” Ramirez said. “Now I have two boys and two girls and that’s it for me.” On Dec. 21, McKenna reached a milestone Dec. 21 as the 1,000th baby was born there marking the first time the hospital's history that 1,000 babies in a year were delivered. By year's end the hospital had witnessed the birth of 1,016 infants, said Stephanie Hell, a registered nurse who works on the obstetrics floor of the hospital's birthing center. And as the end of the first day of 2007 drew near, three more babies had entered the world and a fourth was on the way, Hell said.
