TWELVE MEMBERS OF THE SONS OF LIBERTY Muzzle Loaders successfully completed the courseof instruction Saturday to become certified Hunter Safety Instructors for the Illinois Department of Conservation. Under present Illinois law, young hunters under 18 cannot obtain a hunting license for the first time unless they have passed the hunter safety course. To promote the safe use of firearms, the Sons of Liberty shooters volunteered to become hunter safety instructors and will make their services available to schools, 4-H, FFA and other similar groups in the area. The hunter safety course includes the use and safe handling of rifles, shotguns, pistols, bows and air rifles, as well as conservation practices, game laws, survival and first aid. Teaching the course to the new instructors were Public Information Officer William Stanhouse of Benton and Conservation Agent Kenneth Hart, Carrier Mills. Assisting was Saline county hunter safety inspector Kerry M. Jones.
