OUR COLORED CITIZENS.There is scarcely a colored adult in the State of Ohio who was not acquainted with Mr. Ishmael Keith, w ho died recently in Lawrence, Kas. Mr. Keith made the city of Cincinnati his home for forty years, and subsequently remoTed to the place of his death, which took place at the ripe age of eighty-five years. He was bom a slave and manumitted in the South, and came to this city in 1843 with a neat sum of money which, through his frugality and business tact, for he was limited in education, accumulated to a fortune of over $100,000, and he was known as one of the wealthiest colored men in this Commonwealth.A copy of his last will and testament was sent to this city the other day, which reveals the bequests made by him, and gladdens the hearts of some of our citizens. The beneficiaries are Mrs. Ella Stewart $500, Mrs. Minnie Foster $500, both ot Linn street; Little WalterIshmael Keith, son of Mr. I)an Keith, of Freeman street, $500. and he especially designates to each of his five children sums as follows:Mrs. Willie A. Brvant, of Nashville, Tenn., $2,000; Peter and .Joseph Keith;eaeh $500; Mrs. I^ouisa Moore, of Lawrence, Kas., $1,500; Robt. Keith, $1,500; Green Keith, $1,500; Chas. Keith, $1,000; Salmon P. Chase Keith, $500 (a greatsurprise comes in here, as everybody was of the opinion that the latter son was a favorite and would receive the bulk of his father’s estate, but prior to the death of his father his actions caused the old gentleman to make the discrimination against him); Mr. Alfred Keith, formerly of this city, but now in Arkansas, gets$500; Mr. Dan Keith, another brother, simplygets leit, as he was of the opinion that he already had a sufficiency. The Baptist Church of Lawrence, of which he was a member, gets $300. Mr. Keith, besides owning several farms in Ohio and Kansas, was the owner of five pieces of business property in this city. He died a widower, having been divorced from his wife, who lives in this city and is amply provided for. The large proportion of the estate, not herein distributed, will go share and share alike to each child after the preferences are deducted.
