Nathan Wayne was born on his Grandmother Barthel’s birthday Mrs. Smith is the former Rose Barthel of MuscotahMrs. Kenneth Koger and Mrs. Arthur Gilkison hosted the Brush Creek Unit at the Muscotah city hall on Feb. 11. Mrs Koger, president, presided at the meeting. Sixteen members answered roll call. Pennies for Friendship were collected. Mrs. Malcolm Gigstad gave a very interesting lesson on “Taming Tensions.” A white elephant sale was held following the meeting. The next meeting will be March 10 at the Muscotah city hall with Mrs. William Barthel and Mrs. Kenneth Green as hostess and lesson leader. Roll call for the next meeting will be to name a city in Canada Mrs. Marie Smith is reporter for the group.Mr and Mrs. Larry Linscott, Quincy, 111., spent the weekend with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Leslie Smith. Other guests on Sunday included Mr. and Mrs. Lowell Liggatt and Amy, Mr. and Mrs. William Postma and boys, and Mrs. Susie Linscott, Farmington.Mr and Mrs. Harvey Smith, Kansas City, Mo., spent last weekend with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Harold Christie.The regular stated meeting of the Muscotah Order of the Eastern Star No. 257 was held Feb. 10 at the Muscotah Masonic Hall. Worthy Matron Sammie Lamme and substitute worthy patron, Hubert Beyer presided. Reports were given by Janet Christie who visited Wathena chapter when the worthy grand matron and worthy grand patron made their official visit, and by Doris Barthel and Katrina Wohlgemuth vho visited Hiawatha chapter when a past matron and past patron’s evening was held and also a 50-year jewel presented. Myrtle Tinsley explained “Proving Chapter” for the good of the order. A money making fun game was held during the social hour. Refreshments were served by Mrs. Evelyn Ray. Emma Higley was also a substitute officer. The next meeting will be held Feb. 24 when practice initiation is scheduled.The Thursday morning Bible Study and prayer group held their meeting at the home of Mrs. Roger Oswald. Emma Higley was lesson leader.
