PAGE FIVEADAM PKCKThe man who has lived the longest In Penn township, district NumberN is Mr. Adam Peck. He was born in March 1K67. in Walnuttownship, Jefferson county, Iowa, init log house. At the age of threemonths Mr. Peek’s parents moved into Penn township, district Number S, better known as Hawk eve school district. Mr. Peek had four sis era and two brothers, all who attended this school. Except for three monthsMi'. Peck has lived ail his sixtv-oneyears in District Number S, and hasbecome one of Iowa's most prosper-our farmers, in 1 so4. he was married o Miss Mary Pacha, and the new home was located one half mile fromDie present Hawkeye school. To this union nine children were horn, eightt.oys and one girl. One hoy died in infancy, and the seven boys w-ho attended Hawkeye school were Edward, idaw rence, Walter, Clement. Raymond, Ambrose, Max emus and one girl,Irene. Max emus was the firstpupil to finish the eighth grade atthis school. Other pupils to finis.ithe eighth grade here were: Irenet'eck. Herman Drish. Herman Rope!, Parbara Drzyeimski, Walter Sohoski and HSmelia Rogal. Mr. Pe k hasthree grand children attending thisschool at the present time. Theyare Leonard. Mary and Rita Peck, children of Edwardt Peek.The old Hawkeye school was located one half mile northwest of the1 present location. Although thiss hool house was not painted, it was wall buPtj, well plastered and w'as a warm building. As this school was not in tlie center of the district, it was sold and a new school house built on the present location. This wasfifty years ago. This school la no?plastered hut the past year a newr floor and a new cloak room have been added, as well as new coat of white paint. The largest attendance atthis school was fifjy-six pupils ranging in age from seven to twenty; ears. This is quite a contarst to the present atten lance which is nine pupils ranging in ages from five to rhirteen years. In 1909 Mr. Peck was elected director of (bis school. Hewas reelec ed for five successive years. In 1906 he was elected* director of large and this position hoheld for six years.
