All were masked. They hurried to the sheriff’s resi-11 dence in the jail, called him by a name, and covering him and his t sons with guns, the leader de- u manded: *“Turn over the keys to the jail. ” J The demand was promptly re- J fused, but the mob became so ^ threatening and determined that ^ the sheriff and his family were ^ frightened into telling where the o keys could be found. tlThe mob took them, went to the e jail where they seoured the prisoner and hanged him. |On Nov. 3 last, Tyler shot and seriously wounded his wife and | jT then made an ineffectual attempt at suicide. His last tri U was to havetaken place January 13. The coroner’s inquest will cake place Monday.This is the first hanging in thehistory of Scott county, either lawful or by lynohing.
