In another afternoon contest, Carthage’s Tigers will clash with Anderson’s Redbirds at 3:30 o’clock.In the night session Saturday,Pittsburg KOAMTo TeleviseRig 8 GamesPITTSBURG, Kan.—KOAM-TV of Pittsburg will carry the Big Eight Conference’s basketball television series, beginning January 9, Wayne Duke, conference executive director, announced Monday.The series will be carried throughout the six-state conference area on a 17-station regional network. Play-by-play announcers for the 9-game series wil be Monte Moore of Kansas City and Dev Nelson of Topeka, Kan.The first game of the series wilI match Nebraska at Oklahoma State. The series is scheduled to close March 6, a week before the N.C.A.A. regional tournament at Kansas State. Oklahoma State will be at Kansas for that game.The schedule provides for at least two appearances by each team, with defending champion Kansas State and title cofavorite Kansas appearing three times.Big Eight basketball was last televised on a regular basisJim Wyatt’s McAuley Warriors will tangle with Pineville’s Blackhawks at 7 o’clock and Neosho’s Wildcats will battle Diamond’s Wildcats at 8:30 o’clock in first-round action.First - round action will be completed Monday afternoon and night, with Seneca’s Indians testing Goodman at 2 o’clock and Wheaton’s Bulldogs meeting Webb City’s Cardinals at 3:30 o’clock in the afternoon contests. Lamar will battle Granby at 7 o’clock, while Nevada and Noel tangle at 8:30 o’clock that nightEight games are on tap Tuesday — four in the losers’ bracket and four in the winners’ bracket. Action Tuesday will begin at 9 o’clock that morning and will be completed at approximately 11 o’clock that night.No games will be played either Wednesday or Friday nights. Action will resume Thursday, with semifinals in both the winners’ and losers' brackets being played.Finals in the tourney will be played Saturday night, with the consolation bracket championship game opening action at 6 o’clock. Third-place honors will go on the line at 7:30 o’clock, with the championship tussle set for 9 o’clock.Taking a look at the statistics, Triway’s- two defeats came at the hands of Pierce City, 55-50, in the Pierce City tournament and of Southwest High of Washburn, 50-38, last Friday night. The Bears sport a 7-2 mark over-all.The Neosho five, sporting a 5-3 standard on the season, have played some tough competition this year. The Wildcats lost to Joplin twice and to Republic in their season opener.Lamar’s third-rated Tigers is the only undefeated in six outings this season.McAuley*s Warriors sport the second best record, with nine wins in 10 outings. The Warriors lone loss came against Duenweg, 53-48, in a Little EightConference game.
