Love, a former longtime Joplin police officer, will be Jasper County’s next coroner.Gov. Bob Holden on Thursday announced plans to appoint Love, a Joplin resident, to the post. The position does not officially become vacant until Jan. 1, when the current coroner, Ron Mosbaugh, takes office as county clerk.Love retired from the Joplin department after more than 30 years with the force. He currently is a security officer at St. John’s Regional Medical Center.He is a graduate of Missouri Southern State College and was a Democratic candidate for Jasper County sheriff two years ago.He was among four candidates nominated for the coroner’s office by the Jasper County Central Democratic Committee.The group initially submitted hisas coronername, along with those of WC. Dan-dridge of Joplin and C.K. Warden of Webb City Dandridge later withdrew his name after deciding he could not balance the coroner’s post and his medical practice.The committee then submitted a fourth candidate, Robert W. Chappel of rural Joplin.Six candidates had submitted resumes for the post.
