FIVE YEARS AGO, Dr. A. C. Moerke, Dr. R. F. Karney, Dr. E. A. Hunt and Dr. C. P. Frantz were officers chosen by the medical society in their annual meeting. Julius Rath, a newsboy in St. Louis, who was walking around the world, attracted considerable attention when he arrived in Burlington. He was almost at the end of his journey when he got here and had walked 100,000 miles, and worn out 242 pairs of shoes and 500 suits. Mr. and Mrs. Charles S. Price, of 1114 Angular street, were rejoicing over the arrival of a son. A baby girl was born to Mr. and Mrs. J. E. Har mon, of 1167 Starr avenue, Mr. and Mrs. Leo M. Florence were visited by the stork who left a 13-pound boy. TEN YEARS AGO. About thirty young people of this city surprised Miss Merle Hanne, who resided west of the city. A fine time was enjoyed by the party, who made the return trip at a late hour. Adolph Frevert, who was employed as a driver for J. H. Prenzler, was injured when he slipped and fell from his wagon. Thomas Cor’. slipped on the icy boards at the Main street crossing and suffered several broken bones in his foot, caused by the hard fall. FIFTEEN YEARS AGO, Andrew Brown. ¢* North Fourth street, a bridgeman on the Burlington route, accidental’ cuce his thumb while at work. Martin Anderson, residing at the corner of Linn street and Madison avenue, was injured when a heavy timber fell on him, while he was work ing beneath a platform. Charles F. Sviere passed away at his residence, 1501 Mt. Pleasant street, after an il'ress of several weeks. TWENTY YEARS AGO. The second trial of James Officer resulted in a verdict of guilty. Officer was charged with burglary, having entered the home of Thomas Sater and taken $50. Mr. and Mrs. Chas. Davis, of 1310 Dodge street, were the ground parents of an 8-pound son. Frank Lawlor, former chief engineer of the Iowa lines of the Burling ton, was appointed as successor to Mr. Hood as superintendent of the Citizens’ Water Co. of Burlington.
